 Bio: Josef F. Jungwirth

In March 1999 Royal Caribbean was privileged to announce that they had recruited Josef Jungwirth as their Corporate Executive Chef. Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. is a global cruise company operating two brands, Royal Caribbean International and Celebrity Cruises. The company’s combined fleet consists of 34 vessels with four more on order.

 

In 2006 Josef was appointed as the company’s Director of Culinary Operations to which he oversees all food operations, preparation and kitchen management onboard 21 world-class cruise ships, catering to anywhere from 1,800 to 4,375 passengers depending on the vessel’s class.

 

Among his many achievements at Royal Caribbean, Josef has been responsible for the development, launch and ongoing success of all food operations throughout the fleet and has planned and led the opening of eleven new world class luxury vessels in the past 7 years including the worlds largest ships – up to 4,375 guests. With Royal Caribbean’s recently launched Liberty of the Seas, Sister ship of Freedom of the Seas, which boasts nine restaurants offering the widest variety of food styles and tastes in both classic and contemporary settings. 

 

His upcoming projects and exciting challenges will include the launching of the third Freedom class ship, and the development of foodservice programs for Royal Caribbean’s Genesis of the Seas, which will have a guest capacity of 6,000 and 2000 crew / employees.   

 

He manages a team of 5 senior executive chefs, 3 corporate pastry chefs 2 corporate baker chefs and 2 culinary trainers who all travel from ship to ship to train, ensure quality and support the management of the overall shipboard operations.  In addition he also manages all of the onboard culinary teams composed of: 160 executive chefs and culinary supervisors and a total of more than 3,800 cooks, from 40 different countries all working with an annual food budget of more than $250 million to create some of the most innovative and satisfying food in the market. 

 

This mammoth task has earned Josef much recognition and respect throughout the industry – it is certainly a challenging position few would be willing to take on.

 

Born in Koeingwiesen, Austria, Josef knew early on that he was destined to become a culinary artist. At the age of15, he began a four-year apprenticeship at Hotel Zur Post in St. Valentin, Austria, where he spent 12 to 14-hour days working and studying in

 Bio: Connie Lewis

Corinne Lewis was born and raised in Nice, France.  It is there that her culinary passion and career began.   After completing her education in Food and Beverage, she embarked on a culinary path which led her to work in various restaurants throughout Europe.  There she honed her skills working various positions which ranged from commis to restaurant manager.  Her love for travel led her work in remote places, such as Port Gentil, Gabon in Africa and in Dublin, Ireland.  After surfing the Caribbean and South America for awhile, she established herself stateside.  

 

Corinne began working for Royal Caribbean International in 1996 where she spent a brief period in the Human Resources Department, before returning to her true calling, Food and Beverage.    Today as the Manager of Culinary Operation, she oversees a successful shoreside and shipboard team.   Her drive toward everyday excellence is evident throughout the fleet with her menu design expertise and many other ventures, which includes authoring 2 cookbooks. 

 

When not traveling and visiting the fleet, she spends time taking care of her family, enjoying outdoor activities and visiting various countries.
